When it comes to decorating a kids’ room, the best solution is to let everyone get involved

As mum to two young boys and the co-founder of award-winning fashion and beauty platform This Is Mothership, Samantha Silver is no stranger to seeking out pieces that will work hard for her boys and their toys without looking out of place in her London pad.

We asked Samantha, Leo, who is seven, and Alfie, five, to choose their favourite bedroom buys from our new collection – and these are the (stylish) results.

Samantha’s bedroom buys (with some input from Leo and Alfie…)

‘This bright bedding strikes the perfect balance for a pre-teen’s room – it’s fun without resorting to characters.’

little home at John Lewis Stars and Stripes Reversible Cotton Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set, Single, £28

‘My baby (who is five) still lets me choose his clothes and furnishings, so while I can get away with subtle monochrome patterns like on this bedding, I’m going for it.’

‘Alfie has the smallest room in the house, so a bed like this really helps to maximise the floorspace while making him feel more grownup, sleeping in a “bunk” bed.’

Julian Bowen Pluto Mid-Sleeper Bed Frame, £550

‘Leo has started having sleepovers with his friends. A day bed with a pull-out mattress is great for nights like this, and it slides away easily too.’

Stompa Classic Children's Day Bed Frame, Single, £539.00

‘I have boxes like these dotted all around the boys’ rooms. Some house underwear, pyjamas and sports kit, and get filed away in wardrobes, and some have books and toys.’

Great Little Trading Co Canvas Storage Cube Box, £18

‘The best way I’ve found to store Lego. These stackable boxes also look cool in the boys’ bedrooms.’

LEGO 4 Stud Storage Brick, Blue, £22.99

‘I really like this big blanket because I really like space. It looks cosy for movie night.’

little home at John Lewis Outer Space Weighted Blanket, 2kg, £49

‘Leo is utterly sports mad – in fact, they both are – and he would be so excited to hang these lights around his room.’

Tinc Sports String Lights, £15

‘Whether it’s reading (or more likely gaming), this lounging beanbag chair looks like a super comfy option for Leo’s room.’

Extreme Lounging Mighty Beanbag, £790

‘From Marvel to Man Utd and Harry Potter, my kids love a themed PJ set.’

Fabric Flavours Kids' Harry Potter Lounge Set, from £16

‘To stem the inevitable “I can’t sleep”, a fidget or Rubik’s Cube by their bed helps knock out those pre-sleep anxieties.’

Rubik’s Cube, £11.20

‘Every kid comes down five minutes after bedtime asking for water. This leak-proof bottle would be brilliant to live at their bedsides.’

Ion8 Camo Leak-Proof Drinks Bottle, 500ml, £13.99

Leo: ‘When I do reading in my bedroom this football book would make it way more fun.’

50 Times Football Changed the World Kids’ Book, £14.99
